Cassie Hage

Cassandra (Cassie) Hage joined the Office of Sustainability team as Sustainability Manager in November 2015. In her new role, Cassie will support a broad range of efforts, including implementing key areas of the University’s strategic plan for sustainable operations and guiding the Office’s internship program.

Prior to joining the team, Cassie served as the Executive Director of St. Louis Earth Day for five years, growing it from a staff of one to a team of five full-time employees and a number of part-time and seasonal staff members. Under her leadership, St. Louis Earth Day’s annual budget nearly quadrupled, resulting in expanded programs (like Recycling On the Go, the Green Dining Alliance and Earth Day Action Grants), growth of their namesake event (the St. Louis Earth Day Festival in Forest Park) , and increased outreach and education activities.

Cassie graduated summa cum laude from Truman State University in 2005 and completed her masters at Truman in 2008. As a student activist, she founded the Kirksville Bike Co-op, an organization that secured space on campus for a student-run community bike shop and subsequently won administrative support for its cooperative vision. She was a leader in coordinating Truman’s annual Earth Week events, which include a community festival, workshops, an environmental studies conference, keynote speaker, group bike ride, and film viewing. As a graduate teaching assistant, she designed and implemented a service-learning component for the Introduction to Environmental Studies course she taught, while enriching the curriculum for the unique, team-taught class. She has self-published her creative nonfiction thesis, Roots of a Nomad, which served as the culmination of her graduate studies in English.
