Sandra Matteucci

Senior Lecturer, Director of the Engineering Communication Center - McKelvey School of Engineering

Sandra began her teaching career at Washington University in 2001 after a decade in industry roles. In 2007, she helped establish the Engineering Communication Center to assist students and faculty with their writing concerns and publication efforts. In 2014, Sandra Matteucci became the Director of the Engineering Communication Center. She envisioned ways that students might impact the broader community, and with funding from the Gephardt Institute, she piloted a class entitled Destination Ferguson that has evolved into the present course, Engineers in the Community. She encourages engineering students to seek leadership roles to positively affect communities.

She now serves as Co-Chair of the Student Education + Curriculum Change working group for the McKelvey Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.  Sandra presents an ethics session at WeBelong, a yearly conference for females in Computer Science, and participated in the Mozilla Responsible Computing Challenge to integrate ethics within the CS curriculum.

In 2007, she received an Innovation in Teaching Award from the Engineering department; and in 2009, she was a Gephardt Institute for Public Service grant recipient for Innovation in Community-Based Teaching and Learning.
